Peterson is a 2012 graduate of Brainerd High School where he was a two year letter winner in both baseball and basketball. He earned Baseball All-Conference honors as a senior.

Peterson is a 2016 graduate of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Communication Studies.

While at Luther, Peterson earned letters each of his four years as a pitcher on the Norse baseball team. Peterson was a part of turning around the program at Luther. From 2013-2016 the Norse posted records of 14-22, 16-24, 20-23, and 34-14, respectively. Peterson was a steady arm in the Norse rotation as a senior, leading the Norse to an Iowa Conference Tournament championship and an NCAA DIII tournament berth. The 34 wins in 2016 stand as a school record.

As a senior, Peterson posted a record of 7-2 and a 4.15 ERA in 73 2/3 innings with 73 Strikeouts and a .232 Batting Average Against. He ranks 10th all-time at Luther in Games Started (29) and Wins (16) and 9th all-time in Strikeouts (144). Peterson holds the single season shutouts record with 3. 

Peterson earned Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Week honors twice in 2016 and was an All-Conference selection. He was also named to the ABCA/Rawlings DIII All-Central Region Team. His senior year was highlighted by a No-Hitter vs. Simpson College on April 16.

Previous to accepting the Assistant position at CLC, Peterson coached the VFW team in Brainerd in 2014 to a third place finish at the State Tournament. He also coached in 2016.
